Staring near downtown Frisco, this trail begins on the paved bikeway that connects many areas of Summit County. Reaching the trailhead from the bikeway, it is a steep ascent to the top of Mount Royal climbing over 2,000ft in two miles. The path winds through aspens and pines (and some mining town ruins) ending at the jagged head called Mount Royal that overlooks Summit County. It’s a great place to see some fall colors flanking the many slopes below and get a upclose look at the formidable bristlecone pine. From there, we opted to take some side trails to make our way by Rainbow Lake and walk amongst some more wet and marsh like areas. For those looking for a longer and more challenging hike, Peak One and Mt. Victoria can also be accessed from this trail with a split off from the Mt. Royal trail.
