TRAIL DESCRIPTION
Castlewood Canyon State Park offers a wide variety of trail systems that hike around the canyon system and the remains of a failed Dam. For this hike, we chose to use the Dam, Lake Gulch, and Inner Canyon trails to make a loop. This system will take you down into the heart of the canyon, hiking in and around boulders and Cherry Creek. The ruins of the old Dam is quite a sight on it’s own – specially when you imagine that the whole meadow and canyon that surrounds it used to be completely underwater. Castlewood Canyon State Park is also known as the start (or end) of the Cherry Creek Trail System which is a network of mostly paved trail systems that will take you all the way to downtown Denver.
