The snow that ended our adventure for the day.

This is one of the many segments of the Colorado trail that traverses through most of the mountain ranges within the state. Segment 14 starts off at Chalk Creek in Chaffee County in a valley in the shadow of Mt Antero and Mt Princeton. The beautiful creek at the beginning is a great place to fuel up on water and for a stop when you have made your way back down. The trail is a gradual to steep climb, making its way through dense forest and meadows. At the time we went, the trail was very secluded and offered fantastic views of the Collegiate Range. We were stopped a little sooner than predicted thanks to some heavy snow fall that covered a good part of the trail. A bonus for this trek is the offerings of Mt Princeton Hot Springs for your sore muscles just ten minutes down the road.
