TRAIL DESCRIPTION
Starting at the Deer Creek Trailhead into the Mount Evans Wilderness, the Tanglewood trail traces along the valley with Deer Creek constantly rushing at your side through aspen and pine groves. Though the elevation gain is to slow to moderate along the creek, soon after crossing it around mile 3, the ascent becomes accelerated. Breaking treeline around 10,500ft, views open wide to the east and trail winds into the beginnings of a high alpine biome – maybe a chirp of some marmots might be heard. Hiking poles are highly recommended for this one since the trail surface is very rocky. When the trail reaches the saddle between Rosalie and Pegmatite Points, it officially becomes the Roosevelt Lakes trail and part of the Arapaho National Forest. While we did not make it to the ridge in 2020 thank to a thunderstorm, we did make it to the saddle in 2021 proving the last half mile to be steep but well worth it. The trailhead for Tanglewood is also the start for Rosalie, which connects to the Abyss Lake and Three Mile Creek trails. A link to Three Mile Creek is here.
